A few More Kolkata Photos
It's been a very busy couple of days in Kolkata, but everything has gone well. Unfortunately, I haven't had a lot of time to do anything other than meeting-related tasks...today everything is done, so hopefully I'll have more time to get out and see some things today. Still, I have a few photos worth sharing:
My booth...lots of time spent here! |
The lovely pool veranda at the hotel |
Our fancy gala dinner at the PC Chandra Gardens |
With Drs. Jain, Patel and Doshi |
This photo requires some explanation...when I visited the Kalighat Kalika temple, I bought a small statue of Kali as a souvenir, which I then left on the desk in my hotel room. I came in one night to find that the housekeeping staff had converted it into a small shrine as they turned my bed down:

Images of Kolkata
First, some typical Kolkata street scenes:

This is Victoria Memorial Hall, a memorial to Queen Victoria from when Kolkata was the capital of British India |
Some photos from the Mother House, the headquarters of Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity:
Mother Teresa's tomb, being shown to us by Sister Prema, the current Superior of the Missionaries of Charity |
Finally, some videos of the cultural program we had at dinner last night:

An Unexpected Side Trip
There was (allegedly) too much fog in Florence, so the plane that I should have gotten on was diverted to Pisa. That meant a 1-hour bus ride westward to the Pisa airport:
Of course, by the time this happened and the flight to Paris finally took off, I had missed my connection back to the states. Thus, I got to spend the night at a totally forgettable airport hotel. Fortunately, the hotel was located in the quaint little village of Roissy-en-France:

Last Day in Florence
"Going native" with a nice scarf (for what it's worth, this did stop the sidewalk trinket salespeople from pestering me). |
Trying a trigeminal nerve stimulating device (intended to help treat migraines...very soothing!) |
Site of a delicious lunch of tagliatelle con ragù di carne, fagioli e salsiccia di vitello, e vino rosso (pasta with meat sauce, beans and veal sausage & good red wine) |
A stall at the central market |
A relaxing afternoon after a busy week |
Sunset on the Piazza di Santa Maria Novella |
